Product

HEMPSULATION® is a plant- based, non-toxic insulation with a negative carbon footprint.  As its name suggests, HEMPSULATION® is made from the hemp plant.  Nicknamed the miracle plant, industrial hemp has a natural pest resistance, moisture absorbance and anti-mold characteristics and thermal insulation performance surpassing fiberglass, rockwool, mineral wool, and other synthetic insulation products.  HEMPSULATION® is also allergen free, making it the choice insulation for persons suffering from asthma and other respiratory conditions. It’s 3.7/inch R-Value is achieved without poisonous additives such as formaldehyde and asbestos that can be found in other building insulation products.

HEMPSULATION®‘s moisture absorbance characterics regulate building humidity levels which in turn reduces a building’s total energy consumption.  This will lead to reductions in utility costs and the potential reduction in the size of a building’s required HVAC equipment.

BENEFITS OF HEMPSULATION®

The benefits of using HEMPSULATION® begin during planting of its primary source, the hemp plant. For every acre of industrial hemp planted, roughly 11 tons of carbon dioxide is sequestered from the atmosphere. For every square foot of HEMPSULATION® installed in residential, commercial and industrial buildings, that building’s insulation carbon footprint is reduced by 16%. In contrast, synthetic, non-sustainable insulation products are energy intensive to manufacture and substantially increase a new construction building’s carbon footprint. Hempsulation is a key element of the future of sustainable building and a solution to global climate change.

Performance

  • 3.7/inch R-Value
  • Acoustic absorption properties
  • Regulates building humidity
  • 039 U-Value (A standard fiberglass batt is roughly 3.5″ thick. It would take roughly 8″ (or two pieces) to match Hempsulation’s U-Value.
  • Breathable (prevents nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide build up)
  • Reduces energy consumption

Health

  • Allergen Free. Ideal insulation for persons with respiratory symptoms

What is Industrial Hemp & Why it’s Such a Great Insulator

On December 20, 2018, the 2018 United States Farm bill became law. With this law,  hemp and hemp seeds were descheduled from the Controlled Substance Act making industrial hemp legal to grow, process and transfer across state lines. The legalization of industrial hemp opens the doors of opportunity for multiple industries to create greener, more sustainable products–more than 25,000 products to be exact–that are environmentally friendly and biodegradable.  These products include paper, rope, textiles, clothing, biodegradable plastics, paint, insulation, biofuel, food, and animal feed.   The manufacturing and installation of building materials that are made from industrial hemp may prove to have the greatest impact on improving our environment and saving the planet.

The environmental benefits of industrial hemp begin at seed planting.   Along with bamboo, hemp is among the fastest growing plants on Earth.  It is also one of the first plants to be spun into usable fiber 50,000 years ago.  The plant requires no fertilizer or pesticides, and little water. Additionally, while growing, the hemp plant absorbs a significant amount of the air’s carbon dioxide; thereby, reducing carbon footprint with each use.
